The campaign against Tyla's December concert has gathered momentum in recent days, with many Nigerians expressing outrage over reports of attacks and killings of Nigerian nationals in South Africa. Critics argue that allowing a major South African artiste to perform in Nigeria at this time would be insensitive.
Pere also disagreed with activist Omoyele Sowore, who opposed the boycott and argued that the recurring attacks on Nigerians abroad are largely a consequence of governance failures under President Bola Tinubu's administration.
